The Rainbow Bridge

This page is dedicated to all the prescious angels who have gone before us.  Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

Ellie Belle

Ellie Belle   6/1/2007 ~ 10/1/2019 - Adopted and loved by Pat Wellmeier

Ellie’s story – Lady came to Lucky Star in February of 2012 from another rescue. I was asked to foster her. At first I said no because one of my own dogs was sick. She rallied and they asked me again about Lady and I said yes. She was the most traumatized rescue I have every fostered. It took me 40 minutes to catch her in my backyard because she was so frightened. Eventually I had to throw a blanket over her. I thought, Dear God, what has been done to you little girl. It took her weeks to come into the living room when I was in there. I lured her little by little with cookies. In May I lost my girl, Colleen. I knew Lady was nowhere close to being ready for adoption. One of my friends sent me this poem when Colleen passed.

I knew when I read it I had to adopt Lady. I adopted her June 1, 2012. I renamed her Ellie and she eventually became Ellie Belle. In all these years Ellie has rarely let me hold her but she tolerated petting and eventually would approach visitors in my house. She loved the other dogs and I know she loved me in own way. She developed MVD several years ago and things were getting worse with each passing month. Yesterday she took a turn for the worse and today I knew I could not ask her to go on. Today Ellie let me caress her head and pet her for the longest time. That was a gift and a thank you from my precious girl. This is now Ellie’s last will and testament to all those adopters out there who want a rescue dog. Adopt an “Elllie” – I was never sorry, not for one minute.

Elvis

Elvis was the first owner turn in I ever fostered. His family was moving and could not take him along. He waited for them by the door every day. It broke my heart. Then a wonderful family asked to adopt him. From the moment they arrived at my house Elvis claimed them as his own. For 5 years he was the king of their family. Two other Lucky Star girls joined him as well. Today, May 9th his family told me that Elvis passed away. We are all heartbroken over the loss of this wonderful boy. He had a good life and we were enriched by loving him. That comforts us.

Evan
From Francesca Strickland My beloved Lucky Star Evan crossed the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. There are no words to describe the heartache that has come with his passing . He was my constant companion and my snuggle bug at night. Although he was deaf he knew by my tender touch and the smile he always put on my face how much he was loved - no words were needed. Evan truly touched the hearts of all who met him, and he gave a new meaning to unconditional love. Thank you Julie Charlton and Claire Kelly Comeaux at Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue for letting Evan fill our home with such joy. The world was a better place when Evan was here - tonight, all the Angels in Heaven are rejoicing as one of their own has returned home. I love you Evan and I will never forget you.

Evelyn
July, 2015: RIP Everything I know about patience and unconditional love, I learned from 9-1/2 years with my angel, Evelyn Magnolia. Evelyn passed away this afternoon in my arms. For those of you and your animals who knew and loved her, and there are too many to name, she loved you back tenfold. 7/13/2015: We are so saddened to hear of Evelyn's passing: RIP sweet Evelyn. Her family sent this note about her: Thank you to Lucky star for bringing her, then Dazzle, into my life. She gave me a wonderful life.
