Cavalier King Charles Spaniel : : Female : : Adult
Eve is a 13 lb 5.5 year old, Blenheim female released /retired from a breeder in Ohio 2 days before Christmas. Eve. She was very skittish around people when she first came to rescue. Her foster parents needed to keep a leash on her just to catch her! She is still a little reserved but is getting better at being picked up if she is on the couch or in a space where she feels comfortable. Eve has learned to go up and down the steps at her foster home. She is mostly housebroken, though will not ask to go out so it is up to her adopter to continue to bring her out regularly until she learns the new routine or watch for the signs that indicate she needs to go out. She readily accepts treats from foster mom’s hand and will even jump up on our legs to get her reward. She is a reluctant lap dog, but does settle down and loves to be petted.
She needs someone to continue to be patient and give her space to gain confidence. She would thrive best in a home with another Cavalier or small dog. She would probably not be as happy in a very busy, active home or with young children since she startles easily. She is working on walking on a leash and making good progress. She makes lots of eye contact and takes in all that is happening around her.
At the vet Eve had a good check up, however she has a grade two soft murmur.and her lungs are clear. So for now she will need to have her heart carefully listened to on future vet visits to determine if there is any increase in the murmur. She has had all her vaccination and blood work. She lost 4 teeth with her dental and was spayed on the same day. She tolerated surgery well.
If you are looking for a sweet girl as a loyal companion, Eve would love to meet you. Seeing this timid girl come out of her shell has been rewarding. She wants to please and makes more progress everyday. She will bark when there are sudden noises and people she is not as familiar with. Activities like the vacuum cleaner and washing machine don’t seem to phase her though. She is also curious about new things and likes to investigate, gradually decreasing her distance.
Eve would like to have a dog or two in her new home. She and Noel have been fostered in the same home and came to us from the same facility. We don't know if they were together there, but they made fast friends with each other while fostered. If you are interested in adopting 2 cavaliers they would make a very good pair!
A fully physically fenced yard that is entered from the house is required. Older, mature children are OK. Eve is being fostered in Southeast Michigan.
