Maximus is a beautiful and spritely 9-year-old ruby cavalier who has enough charm to spread around! He was surrendered by a breeder and although he is still figuring out his new, post-retirement life he is as happy as can be and is easily adjusting. Max is always smiling and wagging his tail and is perfectly content to relax within eye sight of his people, occasionally coming over to get some attention.

Since coming in to rescue Max has had a through vet exam where he tested positive for heartworms.  He is currently undergoing treatment and so is taking it especially easy like anyone newly retired should. Max is missing all except three and a half teeth, which makes meal times a bit of a struggle for him. He will gobble up wet food without issue and will generally eat his dry food after checking out what everyone else is eating (and of course a bit of pumpkin puree goes a long way). Max is also a confident boy and is pretty sure that he is still in charge - so he does also have some marking tendencies that we are working though.

Max is doing great with crate training and does not have accidents in the crate or in the house. Prior to heartworm treatment we went on fairly long walks twice daily; he was always excited to go and did not slow down the whole way. His leash walking skills have improved dramatically and he still enjoys the abbreviated time he gets outside now that we are limiting his activity.

 Overall, Max is a fun and loving pup to be around. He is mature, confident and affectionate and is a pleasure to hang out with on the couch or in his dog bed. He is constantly happy and excited and loves getting his face scratched.  This handsome and sweet boy has got it all (except all his teeth and a furever home!).
