Cavalier King Charles Spaniel : : Male : : Young
Riley is a 2 year old tricolor neutered male Cavalier. He was surrendered by his family because of recurring digestive GI issues that appeared to need additional medical care. Lab work and ex-rays did not find any obvious problems so the focus was turned to his diet. Riley has been on Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein dog food with positive results so it appears that his symptoms were a combination of allergies, diet and possibly anxiety. He is also taking Omeprazole (OTC) and a probiotic. These seem like minor changes to maintain to give this boy good GI health. In his foster home, Riley has other canine companions where he runs and plays and gets tired out. This is a must for him. He is also a lap dog and a face licker. Initially, he may be jealous of other dogs but with practice he gets over it and learns to share and also learns the advantages of having playmates. Riley does well in a crate at bedtime but would probably be flexible to other cuddly sleeping arrangements. He needs a routine, he loves that and needs someone able to let him be a shadow to them. He is a little too much dog for a quiet household or very young children because he still needs to learn not to jump. He likes to climb on people and can leap from couch to couch and is very strong. He does need to learn some house manners and to not jump on people. Riley is in the Knoxville area. In addition to canine play companions, additional training and lots of attention and activity, he does need a securely fenced yard. His adopters need to be aware of his strict dietary needs ongoing to maintain a healthy GI tract. We do not consider long distant adoptions. Please complete an application if you are within a reasonable driving distance and can provide him with all if his needs. Please e-mail Mary Coyne, mary401339@aol.com of your interest.
