English Toy Spaniel : : Male
Dec 10, 2020 update Tuk has made good progress, he has put on weight and is less obsessed with food although he needs to be crated when fed. He does not like other dogs getting into his space when he eats. One of his unusual behaviors is that he will not go outside unless he is accompanied by his human. He loves to walk around the neighborhood but will not poop when he is walked on a leash. He has some peculiar bathroom habits but we know how to deal with them and his owner should be aware. He has made progress with housebreaking. He has a cataract in his right eye but no visiton problems. He has settled and is doing well and would love a home with someone who is home a lot of the time and familiar with the breed. Oct 2020 Tuk Tuk is a 2 year old English Toy Spaniel who was a stray and very underweight when he came to Lucky Star. He is NOT a Cavalier so please be familiar with the breed before responding. He is very active, and is very food driven. He is being fed 3 times a day to help curb is extreme food drive and to gain weight He must be fed in a crate , separated from other dogs and possibly during human mealtime. He is like a Bloodhound if there is any food around, and will frantically search for it. A new home must be diligent to keep food out of his reach so he doesn’t ingest anything that is harmful to dogs. We will not consider applications with young children who will have food grabbed out of their hands.
Tuk Tuk is a quirky English Toy Spaniel. He would love a home with someone who is home a lot of the time and familiar with the breed and has the patience to continue to work with him. He is doing great with housetraining and no longer uses the belly band but might need it in a new home. He requires you be with him when it is time to potty, he will not move from the deck/backdoor unless you go into the yard with him. Otherwise he will just bolt back inside. He needs someone physically able to go out with him for every potty break. He enjoys walking around the neighborhood but does not poop on leash, only pees. He does have a cataract in his right eye, but doesn’t appear to have any vision problems! He has been neutered and had a complete exam and is up to date on vaccinations. He is not a cuddly lap dog but likes to be petted and to sleep on the big bed. He likes to have his human around most of the time and another small/medium dog with a laid back attitude. He would clash with a dog having a similar high energy, driven personality.
This boy requires a securely fenced yard, and you must supervise him outside. He is high energy. He needs to be with someone who is home to spend time with him and continue his training and monitor his obsession with food. Tuk Tuk is being fostered in Tennessee. Please read this bio carefully and only respond if you have experience with the breed and can continue to work with him. We will consider applications within a reasonable driving distance. We do not ship dogs. After reading the bio, please complete an application, then contact Mary Coyne, mary401339 @aol.com and provide some details about your experience, understanding of the breed and ability to work with him and provide continued training.
