~~Dash is named after Queen Victoria’s tri-color cavalier Dash. He will be 6 years old in June and very healthy. He caught up on all his medical needs thanks to Lucky Star’s great vet care. Dash was used as a stud dog and was probably kept alone most of the time so he is not as social as some cavaliers…yet.
He looks very regal with his white fur “collar” around his neck. Dash is really anything but regal though – he is a teddy bear of a boy. Dash wears his heart on his sleeve and has very sensitive feelings. Dash’s forever family will have to go slow with him. He will hide in his crate if he hears raised voices and does best with other low key dogs. His first days in foster care were confusing for him. He didn’t understand going in and out of doors or up and down steps. His first few times in the yard he would hurry up and take care of business and come right back to the porch. Dash will bark when he meets someone new. He cocks his head to the side and almost barks out of the side of his mouth – like he is saying – “This is what I want to tell you.” He quickly settles down and will recognize that person the next time he meets them.
Now he loves being outside. His favorite activity is to find a nice small stick and find a cozy place in the grass to chew away. Dash has recently discovered toys. He likes the soft ones and will cuddle them and softly chew on them while hanging out in his crate. He loves food but will still not take a treat from his foster Mom’s hands. They have a routine worked out. He catches her eye and then while all the other dogs are begging on their back legs he will move around the corner to have his treat tossed to him. His shyness is a work in progress for his foster Mom. He is slowly coming out of his shell.
Dash needs a home with a family that is willing to work with him to gain confidence. He would do best with another low key but confident small dog. He definitely needs a physically fenced yard. Dash is being fostered near Dayton, OH.
