Update: 5/9/2011

 5/8/2011:

Barley is doing very well in foster care.   He's become extremely playful, chasing balls, playing with the other dogs and trying to get them to run around.   He warms up to most people quickly.   He has been frightened by  someone walking with a cane; didn't like the big stick and backed away barking.   But has otherwise been very good with people, although sometimes timid.    

 Good appetite.   Besides being housebroken, he knows several tricks; he knows sit, lie down and roll over and loves a treat reward (do we know a cavalier who doesn't?).    He does love to chase cats and thinks they are cool squeaky toys,  although he will stop when told to.    But he needs a cat free zone at home.  :)    He has responded very well to a spray bottle for training negative behavior and as well as dog treats and positive motivation and has learned quickly.    

 He needs a fenced yard and a person who can give him the attention he craves.   He loves his foster mom and follows her everywhere.   He would love a small family of his own (with no younger children) and another dog to run and play with.

This sweet young blenheim boy was picked up as a stray in southern NJ and never claimed by his owner.   He is in great shape and was obviously someone's pet.   He is leash trained and housebroken and a happy boy.    He is somewhat timid and traumatized by his stay at the shelter and needs to be approached quietly at first.  He is then fine with people and other dogs.  Has not been exposed to cats.   Barley would do best in a home with no small children.  He needs a fenced yard to run and play.   He would do best with another dog as a playmate.  Won't you open your heart to this happy, playful little guy?
