Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (medium coat) : : Male : : Young : : Medium Won't you think about adopting me?
“Hi! I’m Nubi (pronounced like newbie). I’m a high-energy Cavalier! I’m only a year-and-a-half old, and I’m still very much a puppy! I’m tri-color male, owner surrender. My foster parents call me a Velcro Cavalier, but I’m not really sure what that means. I like being around my people, and I get a little bit anxious when they are apart from me. I can be very vocal at times! I get along well with other Cavaliers, but occasionally I’ll have a few words with one of the other boys. My foster mom says that’s just boys being boys! They have a test kitty, but I don’t pay her much attention. I’m kid tested and mother approved! I’m looking for my forever home. Mom and Dad say I’m really sweet and that there is a special family out there that has been hoping to find a little boy just like me!”
Nubi came to Lucky Star as an owner surrender. We didn’t have a lot of details about his former family. He had a lot of anxiety for the first couple of weeks, but has settled down as he became accustomed to living in a new place. He was also prescribed trazadone for high anxiety initially which was only temporary. Some anxiety should be expected in a new home. He’s been through many changes and just needs time to settle down and feel safe and loved. We did have to keep him in a belly band for the first couple of weeks, but he seems to have stopped marking now. We haven’t caught him doing it lately, anyway. It is advisable that he uses a belly band until he adjusts to a new home. Boys will be boys!
He really does have a lot of energy. He would be a good candidate for agility training. We take him outside several times a day for long walks / romps around the yard. He loves to play with the other dogs (all Cavaliers). He’s not been around any big dogs, so we don’t know how would do around them. He ignores the cat for the most part. He’s good with kids (10 and up), but should be supervised with smaller children. He would not intentionally hurt them, as he is not aggressive toward people at all, but he might jump up and hit one in the face or knock them down. We will only consider homes with older, dog savvy children, if any.
This boy is eager to please! He looks to his people for social queues. He understands “no, off, sit, and down,” but we have to work with him every day to keep those fresh in his memory. He responds well to positive reinforcement, and the only negative feedback we use are the verbal commands and an occasional very light tap on the nose if he gets too excited and doesn’t listen. Just holding a finger up is usually enough to reign him in.
He decided that first night here that he was going to sleep in the bed with his people. Our fosters normally sleep in a kennel, some in the bedroom, some nearby in a quiet room, but he wasn’t having any part of that. The big bed is a must. He absolutely needs is consistency. If he does something once and gets away with it, he thinks it is acceptable behavior. He is one of the sweetest Cavaliers we’ve ever met. He is the perfect match for someone out there.
He’s been fully vetted, including vaccinations, dental and neuter. He’s been started on heartworm medication. If you have any questions, or if there is anything you would like to know that we haven’t covered, please ask!
Nubi is being fostered in South Point, OH. As with all of our rescues, he requires a securely fenced yard. Nubi also needs another canine play companion. If you’re the home he’s been waiting for, please complete an application so we can get to know you, then contact us at luckystarrescue@gmail.com of your interest. We do not approve long distant adoptions so please consider location before applying.
