If you are looking for a loyal, devoted sweetheart and constant companion, then Wynter may be the girl for you! Wynter is 7 years old and was released to Lucky Star from a commercial breeder. Wynter is as sweet as they come and thrives on attention from her people. She wants to be with, or in sight of, her family always and enjoys affection from all members of her foster family. She is particularly attached to her foster mom and will go so far as to sit on mom’s feet as she is in the kitchen preparing food. Wynter allows all handling and is very docile. Besides getting love from her humans, Wynter’s other favorite activity is napping on the ottoman in the family room where she can see what’s always going on. Her foster family now refers to that chair and ottoman as “Winnie’s spot”. Wynter is making up for lost time and enjoying all the wonderful things that a life in a family offers. She enjoys exploring the fenced yard at her foster home and snuggling in her foster mom’s lap at night while she watches tv. She has an endearing look of adoration for those that she loves and will melt a heart or two. She is not shy about asking for attention and will often push ahead of the other dogs for some petting if affection is being handed out. Wynter is housebroken. She has access to a doggie door in her foster home and can go in the fenced yard whenever there is someone home and supervising for safety. So, she has not learned to “signal” to go out. Therefore, in her new home, she will need to be taken out often until she learns how to let someone know when she wants out. She sleeps all night in her crate and has never had an accident in her crate. When she arrived in rescue, Wynter was extremely overweight at almost 27 lbs. so we have been working hard to get her to her goal weight of 20 lbs. She currently weighs 22.5 lbs. so her new family will need to commit to her continued weight loss in order to keep her healthy. Because she was so overweight, Wynter developed arthritis in her right shoulder and she had a very bad urinary tract infection due to her excess folds of skin. Now that she has lost a significant amount of weight, she no longer limps and we have cleared up her infection. A mild, grade 1 heart murmur was detected, but no treatment is needed for that at this time. She is a healthy, happy girl and feeling so much better now that some weight has come off. An ideal home for Wynter is one where there is someone home most of the time who is ready to have an adoring, sweet, constant companion. She does still spook at loud or strange noises but recovers quickly if a human squats down and calls her over for comfort and reassurance. Therefore, she would be fine with older children and teenagers, but very young, or noisy rambunctious children would frighten her. While Wynter’s main goal is human affection, she does enjoy the companionship of other dogs, so another friendly dog in the home would be best. Wynter is truly a gem and she deserves a home with an abundance of love to share. Winnie has been spayed, had her dental and is up to date on vaccinations and HW testing. As with all of our rescues, we require a securely fenced yard which is attached to the residence. We do not consider or support long distant adoptions or put dogs on planes or ship. Winnie is in Connecticut. Please read the entire bio and understand her needs before applying, then contact Mary Coyne, mary401339@aol.com of your interest. Thank you.
