Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (medium coat) : : Male : : Young : : Small
June 27, 2022 If you are looking for a friendly, affectionate, playful young boy, then Miles may be the dog for you. Miles was released from a commercial breeder just before his first birthday and he is enjoying all of the things that puppies like to do while in his foster home. Miles is going to become a wonderful, well balanced loveable boy for someone who has the time to teach him all of the basics and supervise him closely.
Miles absolutely loves the other dogs in his foster home and seeks them out to play and snuggle with. He loves everyone he meets and enjoys all handling and attention. He will climb over or on top of the other dogs in his home to get affection from his foster family and he loves to give kisses. Miles can be very active and is very agile, yet he will settle down nicely for long periods of time to snuggle with the other pups for a nap. If you are sitting in a chair or a couch, Miles will hop right up and snuggle in while you read or watch TV. If you already have another dog in your lap, he will try to climb up above the other dogs and lay on your chest or shoulder. Miles will need to have a home where there is at least one other friendly, playful dog that doesn’t mind Miles seeking out so much human attention. Miles is not happy sleeping in a crate at night for very long. He would put up a very noisy fuss during the early hours. The solution was to let him sleep on the big bed and he is just an angel all night long when he is allow to snuggle and be with you.
Miles continues to struggle with housebreaking. He has taken three steps back and doesn't seem to "get it". His new family will need continue the positive reinforcement and close supervision to solidify the housebreaking.
The ideal family for Miles will need to commit to positive reinforcement training as he is a sensitive and submissive boy. He is incredibly focused on human attention and has a strong desire to please. In the right, gentle hands this is a great asset and Miles will be a highly trainable dog. He is a petite boy at 11.5lbs and will probably top out at 12 lbs fully filled out. In spite of his small size, he can run very fast and he LOVES to play fetch with mini tennis balls. There is clearly a very bright future ahead for him in the hands of the right family. An ideal home for Miles would require a fenced yard (which is required for all of our rescues) and someone who is home each day that has the time and desire to teach him everything he needs to know and who can supervise him closely. Miles is still very much a puppy in his desire to explore the world with his mouth. When there are ample toys, Miles will gladly chew and play with them, but the new home will need to be puppy proofed to keep him from picking up anything he shouldn’t eat. In his foster home he has been destructive. His new home will need to be able to closely supervise his time outdoors and keep him on leash until he has a solid “leave it” or “drop it” command on cue. Once he outgrows this phase and is reliably trained he will need a fenced yard so that he has the freedom to run, play and burn off some energy. Miles has such a strong desire for attention and affection that he is constantly at the feet of the humans in the household. With his submissive nature, as someone is walking he will dart over and lay down right at your feet and roll over. This means that the people in the household will need to be vigilant not to accidentally step on him. Because of this and his propensity to eat things he shouldn’t, we will be seeking an adult home for him or one with calm responsible teenagers. The family that adopts Miles is going to have an absolutely wonderful boy that will be affectionate, loyal and loads of fun. He is a gem and will absolutely shine with a little bit of polishing. Miles has been neutered, vaccinated, has a microchip, HW tested and had a full exam. Miles is being fostered in Maine. In addition to a securely fenced yard which is attached to the home. He needs a canine play companion and please live in the Northeast and be within a reasonable distance. Unfortunately, we are unable to adopt to MA because of strict state regulations. We do not consider long distant applications. Please complete a current application, then contact Mary Coyne, mary401339@aol.com of your interest.
