Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (medium coat) : : Female : : Young
I am a playful, almost 3 year old little girl. I like to chase squeaker toys and zoom around with my foster sisters. I am the best lap dog ever and take every chance I get to cuddle in a ball on a lap. I am very welcoming of strangers and have never been abused. I have great recall to my name and love to be greeted with a nice head scratch. I have a restricted diet because I have a problem with my pancreas. I came to Lucky Star at 7.5lbs, from another rescue who recognized that I was going to need some extended care and special attention would be needed for me to gain weight I’ve been very spoiled ever since I came to Lucky Star. My condition is called EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) . It’s more common than you’d think and there are many support groups to help with questions about the care of an EPI dog (www.wpi4dogs.com). I currently weigh over 12 lbs and I am very fast and agile. I do not have any other health issues at all. This EPI thing is pretty cool for me because I have been getting 3 meals per day. The only trick to my meals is that I need to have powdered enzymes mixed with warm water and my food for 20 minutes before I can eat it. I am very patient while waiting for my timer to go off. I sit very pretty (if not sort of pathetic) in the spot where I eat. I eat very eagerly and am willing to eat anything, even if it’s in my sister’s bowl. I will need this enzyme for my entire life. My pancreas does not produce the enzyme on its own so I need to have it. It’s a fairly simple process, once it becomes part of the routine and Lucky Star has information about where to obtain the enzyme at a price that is much more reasonable than most vet practices. Thanks to the loving care I’ve gotten so far, I now have fur everywhere and I’m just starting to get some feathering around my paws and my tail. I am always happy, even if you tell me to go in my crate. I am allowed to wander loose during the day here but at night I still go in my crate to sleep. I have never had an accident in the house. I am looking for a home with other dogs of any size and a fenced yard. I still need training with basic obedience and walking but I do love to walk and I am a perfect travel dog. My foster dad says that I’m so friendly that I would be a great therapy dog because I love to meet new people If you have questions about my food stuff, the great people at Lucky Star will be happy to answer them. If you are interested in adoptin Abby or have questions about EPI and the care needed, please contact Mary Coyne, mary401339@aol.com.
