When Carmen first came to Lucky Star she was so timid and scared. She was really shut down and we were very concerned about her.  She spent her first few days sleeping next to her kennel in the corner of the room and wouldn’t eat a thing, not even treats. She was so scared and confused.

She’s come so far in a short amount of time.  She’s such a sweet little thing now. Her tail wags all the time! She definitely wants to be close to her person and even enjoys lap time with her foster mom. Even though all her teeth were removed, she still likes toys!  She eats her soft food really well and even tries to eat my bigger dog’s kibble. Now that those loose teeth are out and healed, she will be able to eat moistened kibble and soft food without pain.  She just gums it until she can swallow it.

She is a six year old retired breeder from an Amish kennel.  She’s super smart and curious. She’s learned the come command, she’s a master at the stairs and doing great with potty training.  She doesn’t like going in her kennel, but once inside she is quiet. She only barked at me a couple of times in the very beginning. Next is leash training.

She has gotten along great with the 50lb pitbull mix in her foster home from the first day. So she’s very dog friendly no matter the breed.

She’s a great little soul and it’s a pleasure watching her come out of her shell. She just requires patience and to be slow with her until she trusts you. She’s not been around kids or cats, so not sure what her tolerance is for either.  She is noise sensitive  so loud households will not work for her. She’s going to make a great addition to the right family.

Carmen requires a securely fenced yard as do all of our dogs and another canine companion in the home.  She will still need someone to work with her to continue her progress which has been wonderful in just a few short weeks!  She is being fostered in the Knoxville, TN area.  We do not ship dogs, approve long-distant adoptions or put dogs on planes.  Please consider the location before completing an application which is the first step.  Contact Mary Coyne, luckystarrescue@gmail.com of your interest.
