Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (medium coat) : : Male : : Senior
Leo is a wonderful boy who will be 10 years old in December. He came to Lucky Star as an owner release because of a divorce. It was obvious that he was loved and cared for. Initially, he was a bit overwhelmed because of the many dogs in his foster home so he found his special spot on the back of the sofa where he would watch what was going on until he felt more comfortable. He adjusted quickly. Leo weighed 25 lbs when he came into rescue and needed to lose a few pounds. His foster mom takes him for a walk on a long lead every morning at a recreational area to help lose weight and to also give him some individual attention. As a result, Leo has lost 3 lbs. and he is at a much healthier weight. He loves those daily walks and will not let his foster mom forget to take him. He meets many dogs, large, small, all ages, all breeds and all energy levels and he is very eager to meet them and socialize. He has not been exposed to cats. Leo has a low grade heart murmur which is common with a Cavalier his age. He received an echo prior to dental surgery. No medication is needed but an echo every year is recommended to monitor his heart with an annual update with a cardiologist. His dental was rather extensive with multiple extractions (18). He was on soft food for two weeks and antibiotics and is now back on his normal diet. It really didn’t seem to bother him and he bounced back very quickly. Leo sleeps on the bed with his foster mom and other dogs or on a sofa close by. He shows no interest in a dog bed and is not crated. In a new situation, he can still mark, just because he is a typical male. Leo requires a securely fenced yard, daily leash walks a warm sofa/big bed and lots of attention. He will get along with another dog, large or small. Leo is being fostered in Maine. Those applications within a reasonable driving distance will be considered. It you’ve never adopted a senior, they are special. Leo is in good health for a 10 year old boy and has lots of love to give. He is a happy boy.
