Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (medium coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Medium
This sweet girl is a spunky 18 lb. gal with a not so great past, but a very bright future. Sheila was released to Lucky Star from a breeding farm in SE Ohio where she was bred for the first 5 years of her life. At her intake vet visit, just one day after we got her, it was discovered that she was very pregnant with one puppy which was delivered by emergency C section. Sadly that puppy died in spite of doing everything we could. Sheila made it thorough though. She is now resting easy in her foster home with her two foster siblings.
She has been spayed and had her teeth cleaned. Her grade 3/6 heart murmur has been evaluated by a cardiologist with an echocardiogram and she has mild mitral valve regurgitation and no heart enlargement. She does not need heart meds at this time and will need to have a yearly echo checkup. She is up to date on vaccinations and blood tests are normal. It took time for her to recover and adjust to her new life. She didn’t give up and did her best every day.
Since Sheila has not been a “pet” before she is going to need someone who will be patient with her as she continues to blossom. She is skittish and a little weary of humans, but shows no signs of aggression whatsoever. Sometimes when she is scared she will hide. Having another dog sibling is required, preferably a Cavalier. She counts on her furry companions for assurance and help with learning new things. During her two months in her foster home Sheila has made great strides.
When she first arrived, she would hide on the couch when it was time to go potty (now knows what the word means!). Now she runs out with the others and hops around the back yard like a little bunny. Then she does her potty right away and heads back to the door. If it’s really windy, she says "no thank you!" and turns back around. For some reason that seems to be Sheila’s biggest fear. With time and patience she has let her fosters come closer to give her pets and butt scratches (her favorite). Her spunky personality has come shining through. When she plays with her bouncy balls and nuzzles her foster siblings, you can see her guard coming down. Sheila has been sleeping in her foster's bed through the night and has no problem letting you know when it’s time to get up and make her breakfast. Overall Sheila is a very laid back pup who loves to lounge on the couch. If she sounds like the pup for you and you can provide the loving home she deserves, please fill out an application.
Sheila must have a fully physically fenced yard with an entrance connected to the house. She needs to live with at least one other dog. No young children, mature older children are ok. Sheila is being fostered in the Detroit Mi area. We do not consider long distant adoptions or ship dogs on planes with or without a person.
