Cavalier King Charles Spaniel : : Female : : Young
Mindy, a 2 yr old cutie, came to Lucky Star from a breeding facility due to her weight loss. She was extremely thin at only 10 1/2 pounds. She was diagnosed with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) and put on digestive enzymes that she her pancreas was not producing. She received 3 meals of high quality kibble with the power mixed in with warm water and soaked for 20 minutes before feeding.
She has put back on weight and now weighs 17 pounds! Along with this physical recovery Mindy blossomed as a friendly, sweet girl and is ready for a forever home. She will need this powder permanently added to her food and she currently eats 2 meals per day. The powder is easy to order online and costs about $12 per month. There is a wonderful website to access to learn about this condition, www.epi4dogs.com. She will also need yearly special blood work to monitor her condition, especially B12 and Folate levels which are currently normal. She is spayed and has had all her vaccinations and a teeth cleaning.
A securely fenced yard and another canine companion are requirements of applicants that will be considered as well as the commitment to maintaining the enzyme routine. Mindy is in Michigan so please keep that in mind when applying. Please fill out an application, then contact Mary Coyne, mary401339@aol.com of your interest.
