Cali came to Lucky Star from an Amish farm in Ohio. At the age of 7 she was released to us. During the time she has been fostered she has learned about real life and how wonderful it is to be loved and pampered. She is quite independent and good around other dogs and a cat that is dog savvy. She was quite overweight at 22 lbs and now weighs 19 lbs. You can see her remarkable transformation in the before and after pictures in this posting.  She loves being outside and is very observant. She loves to be petted and has learned to trust humans.  

She had a litter recently before being released and needed time to recover, get spayed and have an extensive dental. She lost many teeth due to severe decay and has 8 remaining teeth. She is able to eat regular kibble just fine. She loves to eat! She got happier and healthier day by day. She now has a bounce to her step and is enjoying her new life. She is a bit shy, communicates with her eyes and just needs a little time to get to know someone and then she’s fine. She likes to go in the car. She sleeps in a crate but would also enjoy the big bed. She will go in the crate on her own for a nap. She wags her tail a lot these days.  

Cali wears a harness in the car and is gradually learning how to walk on a leash. This will take a while as she had no idea what going for a walk was. She discovered dog toys after a few days and made a nest with a blanket. She then collected toys to be with her in the bathroom which she chose as her “spot”, with the door open. After her spay she joined in with the other dogs. She has been getting braver and happier ever since! Mature children over 8 years are preferred. A physical fence is also required as well as another canine companion.
