Fiona is an extremely sweet and beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel rescued from her former life of breeding.  She is 7 years old and is just under 19 lbs.  Both the vet and her foster mom feel her activity level and health suggest that she is younger but we have her exact birthdate of 11/23/2015 from the breeder.   She has no evidence of a heart murmur to date. She has been spayed, vaccinated, HW tested, and is microchipped.  She had her teeth cleaned, and unfortunately, lost some teeth. However, she has no problem eating her kibble when softened with warm water. She absolutely loves food and her treats! She gets so excited at mealtimes that she continuously spins until we put her bowl down.

Fiona is a happy, affectionate, and quiet girl. We call her ‘smiley’ as she always looks like she is smiling. In the almost 5 months in foster, she’s only barked twice, and both times it was just one quick bark. The lengthy stay in foster care is because she went into heat which delayed her spay by a couple of months as well as vet availability.  Her spay and dental were two separate surgeries.

She has really attached herself to one of her foster sisters (another cavalier). She follows her around and mimics everything she does.  She would do best in a home with another dog since she is still learning and seems to love the companionship.  Another dog, preferrably a Cavalier is a requirement for consideration.  It is suspected that she has hearing loss as she only reacts to loud noises. Because of that, she is a sound sleeper, but also gets startled and skittish if approached from behind. Even though she cannot quite figure out how to jump on the couch, she sure does love laying on it while cuddling her foster sisters and her foster parents.

We are working on getting her fully housebroken and is doing so good! She does really well when she goes out every few hours, so someone who is home a lot would be best for her.  She hasn’t learned how to tell us she has to go potty just yet.  Fiona is not a fan of being in a crate with the door shut; however, she has no problem sleeping in a large crate (with the door open and many comfy blankets) with her foster sisters.

Fiona is doing well walking on a leash. She mostly walks right beside you and without pulling. She loves going for walks, going to a dog park, and playing fetch (although she does expect a treat when she returns the ball to you). No issues with children and/or other dogs.

Overall, she really is the best dog and a family will be so lucky to have her.

As with all of our dogs, we require a securely fenced yard and another canine companion in the home to be considered.  We do not ship dogs or approve of long distant adoptions so please be within a reasonable driving distance before you apply.  These are strict requirements that we follow.  Fiona is being fostered near Saratoga Springs, NY.  Please read and understand the content of this bio, complete an application , then contact Mary Coyne, mary401339@aol.com
