Meet Megan

Megan is a 16 lb, 10 year old, black and tan sweetheart. She was relinquished by her family who could not keep her. She has a wonderful temperament and loves nothing better than to be sitting on your lap or lying next to you. She is very smart and makes the most of each day. The second thing she likes best is mealtime. She gets very excited and really enjoys her food and also treats now and then. She knows sit. The other fosters like her and go in her open crate to snuggle with her. She has a calming effect on everyone she meets.

She also is blind or maybe can see shadows and some light. The first day she arrived she began mapping out her foster home. She gets to the back door steps - goes down those 4 stairs, out the door and has figured out the yard. She uses my voice as her GPS. It is inspiring and exciting to see her figure things out. Bops her nose on an obstacle and try another route. She wags her tail and holds her head high sniffing the air. She sleeps in the big bed along with other fosters happily. She finds her way to the bedroom and goes up the dog stairs to the bed or comes to the side of the bed and asks for a lift up. We do not know how long she has been blind. Her eyes are not painful and she gets a medication drop daily in one eye.

Megan has a loud murmur and her echocardiogram diagnosed atrial and mitral valve leaks and severe heart enlargement. Her lungs are clear. She was immediately put on heart meds with seemed to increase her energy level. She still takes long naps and is very content. Her lungs remain clear. She had a repeat echo after 6 mo and there are no changes and no worsening of her heart condition.

When Megan got here she had lost a lot of her hair. With soothing baths and medication her coat is now soft and shiny. She is on a pill to control her skin condition. She also lost many teeth with her dental and was spayed just recently after getting the repeat good echo report. She tolerated surgery well and just has a few teeth left. It doesn’t stop her from chewing on a hard cheese stick and gobbling down her food. She is a real trooper!!

If you are looking for a laid back friend who is in her senior phase of life and enjoys every day and realize that at her age and with her conditions she has limited time please apply - but she can surprise us! Her meds are an expense and regular vet checkups will be needed. She is a wonderful companion and sniffs and listens to find any visitor that lands on the couch, 4 or 2 legged so she can meet them and gain another friend.    It has been an honor and an education to foster this girl.

If you want to give Megan a loving and relaxed home please fill out an application. Older mature children are preferred and safety precautions due to her blindness are required.   She requires a securely fenced yard, that is attached to the home as well as another calm canine companion in the home to help her adjust and to guide her in a new place. Please complete an application first, the contact Mary Coyne, mary401339@aol.com of your interest.  We do not support long distant adoptions so please consider your location before applying.
